In Atelier's own storage folder on your Mac. Open Settings and click “Open folder” to see it in Finder. Every board is a folder of plain files.

Atelier walks you through it on first launch and opens your first project with a sample board. After that, create projects from the Home screen or press ⌘K.

Freeform is a general whiteboard; Milanote lives in the cloud. Atelier is built specifically for visual boards on the Mac: image styles and masks, palette tools, board themes, map cards, art-directed templates, and search that looks inside your images, on-device. Your boards are plain files in a folder you own.

Capturing a region of the screen needs macOS Screen Recording permission (System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording). Grant it, then relaunch Atelier; macOS applies the grant at launch.

Yes. Copy the image or its address and paste straight onto the canvas. Atelier fetches it and makes an image card.

Press ⌘K. Type words from titles and notes, or describe what's in a picture (“foggy morning”) and Atelier finds it by looking at the images themselves, entirely on your Mac.

Yes: type:image, board:kitchen, is:note, color:#c2502c, before:2026-06-01, after:2026-01-01. Mix them with normal words.

Twelve art-directed boards with fill-in slots: trip plans, brand kits, room restyles, vision boards and more. Drop your images into the slots and the layout keeps its position, crop, frame and style. You can also export a board you've made as a template of your own.

Not at all. A blank board is one click away, and everything a template contains can be built by hand. Templates are a head start, not the way in.

Map cards are crisp snapshots from Apple Maps, pinned to the place you searched. Drag to pan or scroll to zoom and Atelier re-frames the snapshot at the new view. It behaves like a live map, but the board stays a plain file that renders anywhere.

Share → PNG snapshot (transparent supported) or PDF. Exports render exactly what the canvas shows.

Yes, the standard macOS share sheet covers Messages, Mail, AirDrop, and any share extension you have installed. For social media platforms on the web, Atelier copies the image and text for you to paste.

Atelier writes them from the board itself (its name, palette, places, and what's in its pictures), entirely on your Mac. Nothing is sent anywhere, and you can always edit or ignore the suggestion.

14 days free through the App Store. It auto-renews into your chosen plan unless you cancel before the trial ends.

App Store → your account → Subscriptions. Cancelling keeps Atelier until the end of the paid period.

Settings → “Restore purchases” signs your subscription back in through the App Store.

They stay on your Mac and stay yours. You can open, view, and export everything; editing pauses until you subscribe again.

Open a board first; clips land on the open board. If Atelier just launched, open any board and clip again.

Quit and relaunch Atelier. macOS only applies the permission when the app starts.
